• Gaining insight into condition of the immovable cultural property of exceptional importance and cultural property of great importance and taking measures in respect to their protection and use;
  • Providing professional assistance and improving the work on protection of cultural properties, particularly with regard to the modern methods of the professional work (work of experts);
  • Ensuring professional training of the employees engaged in the works on protection of cultural property;
  • Maintenance of central registers of cultural property per types and documentation about them;
  • Ensuring protection of cultural property of exceptional importance;
  • Ensuring the uniform application of criteria with regard to proposition for declaration of the immovable property as cultural property and determining immovable cultural property of great and exceptional importance;
  • Cooperation with the Institutes for protection of cultural monuments in preparation of plans and programs of work on immovable cultural property;
  • Maintaining the records and documentation about the immovable property of particular importance for history and culture of the Republic of Serbia located in Serbia and abroad and ensuring their preservation;
  • Ensuring the uniform application of international conventions and other international acts in the territory of the Republic of Serbia;
  • Notifying on an annual basis the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia about the status of protection of cultural property included in the World Heritage List;
  • Determining whether certain items, except for publications, which enjoy prior protection, namely which have been assumed to possess the characteristics of such items, can be temporarily or permanently exported abroad;
  • Researching the immovable cultural properties and developing the studies, detailed studies and projects accompanied by corresponding documentation for the purpose of the most appropriate protection and use of a certain immovable cultural property;
  • Ensuring that within spatial planning and space development the immovable cultural property is provided with a corresponding place and role in a certain environment;
  • Publication of material about works undertaken on immovable cultural property;
  • Development of projects for the works to be carried out on immovable cultural property and carrying out of the works;
  • Gaining insight into implementation of the measures of protection and use of immovable cultural property;
  • Providing professional/technical assistance in preservation and maintenance of the cultural property to the owners and users of those properties;
  • Ensuring that cultural properties are used for the purpose defined by the law;
  • Monitoring the implementation of the measures of protection and proposing the measures of protection of cultural properties;
  • Implementation of the measures of technical protection and physical protection of the cultural properties;
  • Issuing publications about cultural properties and the results of works on their protection;
  • Exhibiting cultural properties, organization of lectures and other appropriate forms of cultural educational activities.
